It’s about heart.

Who We Are

Play With Heart Foundation’s is a 501(c)(3) organization that aims to raise awareness and provide resources to prevent sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in youth athletes. We work in partnership with organizations to conduct large-scale cardiovascular health screenings, donate and provide AED trainings, and advocate for the health of youth athletes across America ranging from social media campaigns to pushing for legislative changes with our country’s lawmakers.

Why Play With Heart?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes.

1 in every 3 days, a high school student dies from sudden cardiac arrest.

Most athletes don’t recognize signs of sudden cardiac arrest before it’s too late.

Fewer than 10% of people who experience sudden cardiac arrest survive.

SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) is the leading cause of death on school campuses.

EKG screenings have shown to significantly decrease athletes’ mortality from SCA.

Our Story

Nicole Mossmer US Open

Nicole Mossmer was a tennis player going into her freshman year at Stanford when she underwent an EKG screening that diagnosed her with a life-threatening congenital heart defect, Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome. Nicole, who was formerly the #1 ranked junior tennis player in the nation with professional tennis aspirations, was told that she would need to undergo a heart surgery to be able to compete in her sport due to the high risk of cardiac arrest from her condition. After two heart surgeries and years in and out of hospitals, Nicole, alongside her childhood friends and fellow co-founders Amy Huang, Ian Dickinson and Johnik Moores, recognized the lack of EKG screenings in young athletes. In June of 2022, they launched Play With Heart Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to raise awareness of SCA and provide free heart health screenings for all youth athletes on a national level.
